Matias Faldbakken: Shocked into Abstraction

This catalogue accompanied Matias Faldbakken's 2009 exhibition Shocked into Abstraction.

In works covering a wide range of media, the languages of underground and youth cultures, vandalism and extremism are fused with those of fine art, tracing common ground between them. The art of Faldbakken is both popular and conceptual. Faldbakken uses appropriated idiomatic phrases or sentence fragments that have more than one connotation, creating a broader gap period in which an audience member will form their own associations which highlight the subjectiveness in his work.
