This catalogue accompanied Zhao Bandi's 2004 exhibition Uh Oh Pandaman!
Bejing-based artist Zhao Bandi photographs himself in various situations with his toy panda. They have conversations, delivered with deadpan humour, on subjects such as war, terrorism, the environment and disease.
His practise encompasses photography, video and performance. The panda – a recognizable symbol of China – becomes a spokesperson, allowing the artist to tackle difficult issues and deliver challenging messages with an appealing sense of humour. Features artist interview with Karen Smith and essay by Huang Du.
