This catalogue bundle brings together three major artists who have had abundant influence on the medium of printmaking.
Portrait of the Artist: Käthe Kollwitz is comprehensive publication about one of the leading artists of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, notable for the emotional power of her drawing, printmaking and later sculpture. The catalogue focuses on around forty works from the British Museum’s remarkable print collection, which celebrates the enduring impact of Kollwitz’s powerful and affecting images.
The Moon Reflected was published for Ikon’s 2007 exhibition of work by Utagawa Hiroshige. The exhibition, curated by renowned British artist Julian Opie, consisted of woodblock prints by 19th century Japanese artist Hiroshige. It demonstrated the relevance of historical work to current artistic practice, and provided another look at printmaking, an important part of Ikon’s programme.
Kitagawa Utamaro accompanied Ikon’s 2010 exhibition of work by one of the masters of Ukiyo-e featuring a survey of woodblock prints by Japanese artist Kitagawa Utamaro (c.1753 – 1806) from the collection of the British Museum. The publication focuses on images of women, in particular the courtesans of Yoshiwara, the regulated brothel district in Edo (now Tokyo).
